Heart 2 Hearts

Hi! Thank you for visiting my site! My name is McKenna. I am 17 years old and my birthday is on July 24th. Although my birthday is an important day, the day after it has become just as significant. The day after my 13th birthday, I underwent scoliosis surgery, which consisted of fusing two titanium rods to my spine to straighten  it, which otherwise would have been "S" shaped. Of course, this surgery is not the most painless thing in the world, but a pink squishy pillow helped me pull through. Yes, something as simple as a pillow comforted me. But it also inspired me. It was a birthday gift my grandma, and besides being irresistably squishy, it reminded me of the people that loved me. It reminded me even in the toughest of times that there were people supporting me.

That pink pillow is what started Heart 2 Hearts. I wanted other surgery patients to receive a squishy pink (or red)  heart-shaped pillow before their surgery just like I did. I wanted it to serve as a physical comfort, but also as an emotional one. I know that throughout the surgery experience, times can become lonely. It can feel as though no one else really understands what you are going through. But my mission is that those heart pillows remind patients that they are not alone. The hearts symbolize the love and support I am sending each patient, so that each one knows they can make it through the surgery feeling better and stronger than ever before!
